Lviv State University of Physical Training (till 2006 – Lviv State Institute of Physical Training) was established on 1st of June 1946.

Approximately 20000 specialists has been trained throughout its history. More than 200 graduates have become champions and prize winners of the Olympic Games, world and European championships. The most notable among them are: Chukarin V. and Makuts B. (competitive gymnastics), Kutenko Yu. and Ter-Ovanesyan I. (track and field athletics), Androsov H. and Dosayev F. (swimming), Bilyavskyy O. and Ivanchuk V. (chess), Bereza V. and Slyvynskyy (paddling), Stankovych V. and Sydyak (fencing), Korol P. (heavy athletics).

The following sportsmen has been added to this list lately: Hrachov D., Palekha K., Ivashko M. (archery), Dronov O., Korostylyova Yu., Chumachenko D. (firearms shooting), Shemyakina Ya. (fencing), Tyryk H. (competitive gymnastics), Skobelskyy O. and Stadnyk A. (freestyle wrestling), Freydun I. and Kutcher O. (powerlifting), Pokora N. (sambo), Sheremeta S. (bodybuilding).

The latest achievements of LSUPT students are – 5 medals at World Student Games in Bangkok in 2007. Among them: Shemyakina Ya. (fencing) – 2 gold medals, Korostylyova Yu. (firearms shooting) – 1 gold and 1 silver medal, Chumachenko D. (firearms shooting) – 1 bronze medal.

Plenty of honoured trainers, honoured teachers of physical training, famous organizers of sport events in the region and the country have been students of LSUPT.

University has become a member of European Network of Sport Science, Education and Employment (EN SSHE) in 1998. In 2001 University  has become a collective member of International Council of Health, Physical Training, Recreation, Sport and Dance. (ICHPER-SD).

More than 20 professors, doctors of science, honoured trainers of Ukraine and honoured workers of sports, 107 candidates of science; 22 honours educators of Ukraine; 41 masters of sports and masters of sports of international category; 19 judges of national and international category. The most eminent are Moroz V., Shyyan B., Prystupa Ye., Kuts O., Zanevskyy I., Shevaha V., Yaremko Ye., Mukhin V., Baranetskyy H., Zhdanova O., Vatseba O., Savchyn M., honoured trainers Hertsyk M., Busol V., Vasylyshyn I., Stefanyshyn O., Tkachek V.

Research institute, special academic council for consideration and conducting defense of thesis, post-graduate courses function and two special editions of Presidium Certification Commission are published. An international and four state conference are conducted yearly.

Scholars of the university organize research work in complex groups of combined teams of Ukraine.  

On the basis of the University there are: Student Research community; Sport club, School of Higher Sport Skills; Tourist club «Manivtsi»; Sport theatre; Amateur groups.

Student subject competitions, Student scientific conferences, Sport events, Sport and art fests are held every year.

The tuition fee for 2010 - 2011 academic year is 12,000.00 grivnas ($1,500.00) {subject to change due to inflation) Also 2,220.00 grivnas should be paid for the translation and nostrification of the document.

Tuition fee can be paid by bank transfer to the Lviv State University's of Physical Training  bank account not later than the start of the course. The accommodation fee is to be paid in Lviv.

Admission requirements

The LSUFT is an equal opportunity institution, and international students are admitted regardless of race, sex, native language or religion.

Main documents to be submitted to the LSUFT by the candidates are:

• Personal application form

• Notarized copy of the Certificate of education with grades obtained

• Certificate of health with the results of HIV-test as well as the permission to study in Ukraine

• Copy of Birth Certificate and six 4x6 photographs

• Medical Insurance Policy

• Roundtrip airplane ticket with open date of return.

Additionally, the LSUFT requires submission of the following documents:

• A copy of applicant's passport.

• Official evidence of financial resources necessary to cover both tuition fee for the whole term of study and related costs, issued by a bank in the student home country or by an applicant's sponsor.

The admission procedure is completed by signing the agreement between the applicant (or his/her agent).
