As part of the project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, “Historical Residences 2.0: The Ukrainian Factor in the History of Glorious Victories,” on August 26, 2026, representatives of Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture – Professor Andrii Sova and Associate Professor Pavlo Kucher – visited the city of Tržič, Republic of Slovenia, a place closely connected with the life and work of the prominent Ukrainian educator, public figure, organizer of the Ukrainian sports movement, and Professor Ivan Boberskyi.
An important part of the visit was honoring the memory of Ivan Boberskyi and laying flowers at his grave. The ceremony was a symbolic continuation of the longstanding efforts to preserve the memory of a figure who made a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian physical education, sport, and the Ukrainian civic movement.
During their stay in Tržič, the university representatives also visited the Tržič Museum, where they learned about the history and cultural heritage of the city. Of particular significance was a visit to the house where a memorial plaque dedicated to Professor Ivan Boberskyi has been installed, stating that he lived there from 1932 to 1947.

It was particularly meaningful to visit places connected with Ivan Boberskyi’s life and to gain a deeper understanding of the historical ties between Ukraine and Slovenia.

Petro Beshta, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Slovenia, and Anastasiia Shchehol, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine, for organizing the event, supporting Ukraine’s efforts to preserve historical memory, and drawing attention to the heritage of prominent Ukrainians who lived and worked abroad.
For Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture, preserving and promoting the legacy of its patron is an important part of the University’s mission. The memory of Ivan Boberskyi connects generations and reminds us of his life motto, which remains relevant to Ukrainian sport, education, and civil society today:
“Competition strengthens the will!”
These words of Ivan Boberskyi continue to inspire us to move forward – towards new achievements, while preserving the memory of those who shaped the Ukrainian sporting and national tradition.
