Anna Muzychuk, a graduate of the Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture and a distinguished grandmaster, has secured early qualification for the 2027 Freestyle Chess World Championship by winning the Freestyle Friday qualification series ahead of schedule.
With one week remaining before the end of the qualification cycle, the Ukrainian chess player became mathematically unreachable for her closest rivals, Rose Atwell and Aleksandra Kosteniuk.
It is worth noting that the Freestyle Friday qualification cycle was initially scheduled to run until December 18. However, in early June, FIDE amended the regulations, dividing the qualification process into two separate cycles and granting women an additional qualification spot for the World Championship.
The Freestyle Chess World Championship will be held in two stages. The women’s tournament is scheduled to take place on February 5–7, 2027.
It should also be recalled that Anna Muzychuk recently delivered an impressive performance at the Norway Chess tournament in Oslo, where she finished in third place.
