Building Stronger Communities: LSUPC Delegation Joins International Training in Poland

A delegation from the Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture (LSUPC), including Professor Yuriy Briskin and Associate Professors Neonila Neroda and Serhii Smyrnovskyi, took part in an international training held in Bydgoszcz (Poland) from March 16 to 21, 2026, within the framework of the “RITA – Transformations in the Region” program.

The training was organized as part of the project “Polish-Ukrainian Regional Adaptation Centers – Vol.3”, which focuses on developing a network of centers supporting vulnerable groups through mental health services, physical activity, and social integration.

Throughout the program, participants explored modern approaches to psychological and psychotherapeutic support for Ukrainians affected by the war. Expert Ewa Kaniewska shared practical methods of working with children, parents, and families, offering valuable tools for professionals engaged in adaptation and support services.

A particularly engaging part of the training was the hands-on experience in a virtual reality laboratory. Participants experienced simulations of real-life challenges faced by people with disabilities and older adults, gaining deeper insight into their needs and ways to better support them.

The program also highlighted the role of occupational therapy in improving the quality of life and social inclusion of older people. Training sessions took place at the Day Care Center of WSG University, providing a real-world perspective on working with this group.

Participants also had the opportunity to develop practical skills through adaptive games and exercises using Balance Board and BOSU equipment, as well as by simulating a full-scale tournament an interactive way to learn how to organize inclusive activities.

The training concluded with a roundtable discussion and final assessment, after which all participants received certificates. The teams also discussed the progress of existing adaptation centers in Kharkiv, Lviv, and Rivne and outlined the next steps for the project’s development.

The project is co-funded by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation under the “RITA – Transformations in the Region” program and implemented by the Education for Democracy Foundation in partnership with leading academic institutions from Poland and Ukraine.

We sincerely thank our Polish partners for their warm welcome, inspiring collaboration, and valuable exchange of experience. The next phase of the project promises to turn knowledge into real impact – creating new opportunities for support, inclusion, and community development.
