Academic staff of the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Culture at the Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture continue to strengthen cooperation with leading educational organizations in Ukraine.
A recent outcome of this collaboration is the University’s partnership with the NGO Osvitoria in the preparation of the teaching and methodological guide “The New Ukrainian School in Times of Change: Grades 5–6. Physical Education.”
The publication was co-authored by Professor Nataliia Sorokolit, Doctor of Sciences in Physical Education and Sport, together with Associate Professors Olha Rymar and Olena Khanikiants, Candidates of Sciences in Physical Education and Sport. The guide provides contemporary methodological and practical recommendations for physical education teachers aimed at the effective implementation of the principles of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) within the educational process.
Professor Nataliia Sorokolit prepared chapters devoted to inclusive education in the New Ukrainian School, the development of competency-based learning tasks for fostering students’ key competencies, the methodology for designing competency-oriented assessment tasks based on the learning outcomes defined by the State Standard for the Physical Education educational field, differentiated instruction, and the organization of physical education lessons in shelters during air raid alerts.
Olena Khanikiants focused on the psycho-emotional well-being of physical education teachers as an essential factor in their professional effectiveness, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the psychological well-being of both teachers and students in the face of contemporary challenges.
Olha Rymar addressed the specific features of blended and distance learning in physical education, presenting modern digital solutions that support effective teaching practices and help maintain students’ engagement in the learning process.
The teaching guide was scientifically reviewed by Professor Ivanna Bodnar, Doctor of Sciences in Physical Education and Sport and Head of the Department of Theory and Methods of Physical Culture at Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture, who served as the academic expert for the publication.
The guide was developed within the framework of the Multi-Year Resilience Programme (MYRP) 2024–2026 and is funded by Education Cannot Wait (ECW), the United Nations global fund supporting education in emergencies and protracted crises. In Ukraine, the MYRP is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The publication can be used in the educational process for courses such as Theory and Methods of Physical Culture, Inclusive Physical Education, Developing Digital Competence, and Physical Education in the New Ukrainian School. The contribution of the University’s academic staff to this publication represents a significant step toward the advancement of modern school physical education in Ukraine and the dissemination of best practices for implementing the New Ukrainian School reform.
