On May 7, Ivan Boberskyi Lviv State University of Physical Culture named after hosted a ceremonial meeting of the Academic Council during which the issue of awarding the honorary title «Doctor Honoris Causa» to Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation, was considered.
The report was delivered by Professor Yuriy Briskin, Head of the Department of Olympic, Professional and Adaptive Sports. In his speech, he highlighted the remarkable achievements of Leonz Eder as a student, gymnast athlete, and long-standing leader of the international university sports movement.
Professor Yuriy Briskin particularly noted:
«Thanks to your work within the International University Sports Federation and the European University Sports Association, university sport has gained new opportunities for development, while international cooperation has acquired new meaning.
Your contribution to combining education and sport, supporting young people, and strengthening international partnership is exceptionally valuable and worthy of the highest recognition.»
By the decision of the University Academic Council, Leonz Eder was awarded the honorary title «Doctor Honoris Causa.»
The Rector of the University, Yaroslav Svyshch, solemnly presented Leonz Eder with the diploma and invited him to deliver his inaugural speech.
Distinguished guests attending the ceremonial meeting of the Academic Council included:
- Andrii Vitrenko, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine;
- Vitalii Lavrov, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization;
- Anton Nikulin, Director of the Sports Office of the Lviv City Council;
- Yurii Turyanskyi, Head of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Branch in Lviv Region;
- Andrii Kotelnyk, University lecturer, Honoured Master of Sports of Ukraine, Olympic Games medalist and World Boxing Champion;
- Bohdan Yukhnytskyi, Head of the Student Union of Lviv Region.
The ceremonial event became another confirmation of the University’s active international cooperation and its significant role in the development of university sport and academic partnership.
